Faculty of Engineering and Architecture

 

Mission and Objectives

The rapidly augmenting demand for the services of the engineers, world-wide, necessitates the need for expanding the opportunities to qualify high quality engineers in all specializations. Such needs are paramount all over the third world to which we belong.

In response to that, Omdurman Ahlia University initiated the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture by 1998.

The Faculty started with the Department of "Computer Engineering" which was then a section in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Computer.

In 2006, the Faculty got the approval of the Higher Education Authorities. By then, it included the two Departments referred to in paragraph II.

The main objective of the Faculty as it concerns Electric and Electronic Engineering, is to respond to the unprecedented expansion and development in the domain of electronic systems, techniques and devices. Hence, it sets futuristic application - based courses which are designed to provide the solid background for the engineers needed to pioneer the new developments, to undertake design jobs, supervise production, market, install and operate equipment.

On the other hand, the courses of the Department of Architecture are set to enable the graduates to design buildings and the spaces between them and thus to create an environment worthy of its users. Moreover, they are expected to become innovative with reliable abilities to reconcile the rational with the creativity in order to overcome the increasing problems of transforming the vernacular habitats into modern buildings that are comfortable, sustainable and energy- efficient. The end product of the designs made by graduates is to have positive influence upon the behavior and the well-being of the users.

The Departments:

1. The Department of Electrical and Electronics comprises three specializations namely: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Communication Engineering.

2. The Dept. of Architecture with two specializations (Design and Construction Management).

The Course Outline

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (D.E.E.E.)

This Department comprises three sub-departments.

Electronics and Computer Engineering.

Communication Engineering.

Electrical Power Engineering.

All three sub-departments offer undergraduate ( 5-Year/ 10-Semester) courses leading to B.Sc. ( Honors) degree in

Electrical and Electronics Engineering with specializations in Electronics and Computer Engineering, Communication Engineering, and Electrical Power Engineering.

The structure of the curriculum is composed of compulsory courses and elective courses depending on the specializations. The compulsory courses include:

I. University requirements comprising Arabic Language, English Language and Religious studies.

II. Basic Sciences: Physics and Chemistry.

III. Mathematics.

IV. Computer Programming.

V. Engineering Science.

VI. Electrical and Electronic Engineering courses

The elective courses cover the three specialized disciplines of Electronics and Computer Engineering, Communication Engineering and Electrical Power Engineering.

The total credit Hrs. to be covered in each discipline are 200Hrs. extended over the five years of the study plan.

2 : SUMMER TRAINING

VI-Assessment Criteria:

The Faculty of Engineering adopts the Semester System for the Assessment of its students . The System is ammended to suit the Higher Education Requirements . Our adopted System is comparable to the local systems adopted in the majority of the Engineering Faculties and Colleges in the country. Hence, our graduates will have equal opportunities with their Prof.essional colleagues

The Salient Features of our Assessment Criteria are as follows:

1- We adopt the Continuous Assessment in which the Students' work is monitored and marked through the Semester (15 teaching weeks/ Semester ).

2- Each Subject Unit is assessed as an autonomous element.

3- The marks that the student attained in each unit are entered in the appropriate category of the following table:
